amp-to-11.jpgWilliamsburg and Greenpoint notched the most noise complaints of any section of Broooklyn during the first 6 months of 2009, per the Daily News, with 4,300 noise complaints coming into 311—a hair less than the number of complaints during the same period last year, though Councilmember David Yassky says in 2008 most such calls were about construction din. This year, by contrast, most of the complaints were about noise coming from neighbors’ homes. Community Board 3’s neighborhoods, which include Bed-Stuy, had the second-highest concentration of noise complaints (3,882), while CB14, which covers Flatbush and Kensington, had the third-highest, 3,362.

  1. another point is there’s a big difference between blasting Scrubs to “11” and a band playing music. If the band’s playing passed 10:00 then that sucks…although if it’s in billyburg it’s probably to be expected.

  2. “After he pulled a gun on me”

That’s my point….the people who play unreasonably loud music at unreasonable hours are quite often (surprise!) unreasonable when asked to moderate the volume. In fact, some people are ready to go to war over something as silly as this. All I’m saying is be sure of who you’re talking to before you decide to play tough guy.

  3. DH, have to agree with you. There was a block party on saturday night and the little un’s were trying to get some sleep. My wife suggested calling 311 but I went out in my slippers and asked one of the loudest chaps “I say, do you mind awfully turning down the gramophone a tad. I wouldn’t normally be so presumptious as to bother you but the wee ones have a kabbalah experience lesson at 9am and an organic upholstery class at 10.15. Also my wife is having the vapors, and you appear to be spilling beer on my RangeRover.” After he pulled a gun on me I popped back inside and called 311.

  4. I thought we are all supposed to know who are neighbors are and be friendly with them (as per the Prof Gates arguement last week) – I think it’s funny that nowadays instead of speaking to your neighbor, people call the police or leave passive aggressive notes asking them to stop in a roundabout way. Man up.

I think it is the attitude of the suburban generate transplants that have the attitude that anything goes in the city/that it is some do as you please anarchy stereotype they bring with them.

oh please. than explain the projects.

  6. Rob, It is exactly because this is a city and we live much more densely and on top of each other that we have to be more respectful of others..including the noise we generate.
I think it is the attitude of the suburban generate transplants that have the attitude that anything goes in the city/that it is some do as you please anarchy stereotype they bring with them.
If you want to blast music and have your surround sound audio of tv – move to suburbs where you don’t share walls with others.
