Make a splash without paying a penny in one of Brooklyn’s 15 free outdoor public swimming pools. Ranging in size from a handful of mini-pools to the gargantuan facilities in Red Hook and at Williamsburg’s McCarren Park, the pools are open to the public every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. through early September.
For the uninitiated, there are a lot of rules: You need a lock and a swimsuit to enter (men’s suits need a lining, and yes, they’re known to check), and the only permitted cover-up is a plain white T-shirt. Food, glass bottles, electronic devices and newspapers aren’t allowed.
But hey, a small code to follow to get a refreshing dip in the middle of a New York summer.
