After the Thanksgiving meal has been gobbled up, thoughts turn to the pressures of the holiday shopping list. Take a relaxing approach this year by strolling through some Brooklyn neighborhoods and supporting local shops and restaurants during Small Business Saturday this weekend.
The annual nationwide event, originally started by American Express in 2010, encourages patronage of local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, that date is Saturday, November 29.
Businesses across the borough are open (either in person or online) for gift purchases, while eateries offer a break for a nosh amidst shopping — and in some cases, gifts or gift certificates. Shop Small Greenpoint expands the local focus with the return of their in-person crawl event from November 28 through December 7 with discounts, raffles, and more in support of Greenpoint businesses.
To inspire some ideas, we’ve rounded up nine Brooklyn shops and restaurants and their owners featured in Brownstoner so far in 2025.
