“Does someone really want to walk into a dirty shipping container and look at photography?” asks Photoville creative director Sam Barzilay. Yes, it turns out — tens of thousands of people want to!
The extensive outdoor photography exhibit that is Photoville returns to Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 5 tomorrow, September 10, to hold a myriad of photo-related displays and events in its characteristic shipping containers. Now in its fourth year, Photoville officially happens from September 10 through 20, but a 1,250-foot fence of photography winding from Joralemon Street through Dumbo is already installed for public enjoyment.
The mostly free event will have a beer garden, more than 50 shipping-container exhibitions and various outdoor installations. There will be a ticketed full-day conference on building photography businesses, as well as various daytime, nighttime and special events, like NYTimes Photo Hunt, a set of pre-launch book signings, an education day and a photo swap.
Photoville is so extensive, you may find yourself stumbling upon it without even planning to.
