The annual house tour season kicks off with the 59th annual Park Slope House Tour, where historic house enthusiasts can feed their appetite with a gander at some of Park Slope’s prime specimens.

Organized by the Park Slope Civic Council, the tour raises funds for the council’s grant program, which provides money to community projects in the arts, education and civic improvement.

The tour will include at least five houses, whose details are highlighted on the council’s website. Among them are a Neo-Classical townhouse with an original icebox; a Renaissance Revival house whose original features include mahogany woodwork, plasterwork and a Carrera marble-lined master bath with a washstand; and an early 20th century home with custom wallpaper. Also on the tour will be the richly detailed interior of the historic Montauk Club, designed by noted 19th century architect Francis Kimball.

The self-guided tour runs from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 and starts at Poly Prep Lower School, at 50 Prospect Park West, where ticket holders can pick up shoe covers and an illustrated brochure to guide them along the route.

Also included in the house tour ticket price is a lecture by historian Francis Morrone at 6:00 p.m. at the Berkeley Carroll School. Tickets bought in advance are $25 and can be purchased here. Beginning May 1 tickets will also be available at select local merchants; for more information, click here.

Also returning for the spring house tour season will be the Prospect Lefferts Gardens tour organized by the Lefferts Manor Association. Details are still forthcoming, but their 48th annual tour will take place Sunday, June 3.
