It’s fall and the Bed Stuy house tour is back. Always the last house tour of the year, and one of the biggest in Brooklyn, the 38th Annual Bed Stuy House Tour takes place this Saturday, October 15.

The self-guided walking tour is a chance to meet the neighbors and talk to them about the history and renovation of their homes. Put on by local community group Brownstoners of Bed Stuy to encourage homeownership in the neighborhood and raise funds for charitable causes, the tour starts at Boys and Girls High School at 1700 Fulton Street.

Also included in the events for the day are a free homeowner’s workshop from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and the Bed Stuy Bazaar from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., both of which will take place at Boys and Girls High School. The tour starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.

Participants who buy tickets in advance must present a printed ticket to receive a tour brochure. A brochure is required for entry to the homes on the tour.

Advance tickets can be purchased online or in person at Brooklyn Swirl at 445 Marcus Garvey Boulevard or at Bed-Vyne Wine at 370 Putnam Avenue. Tickets can also be purchased at Boys and Girls High School the day of the tour. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the tour.

The tour caps the yearly Bed Stuy Alive festival, a week of events celebrating the neighborhood. Other house tours this year took place in such neighborhoods as Crown Heights, Fort Greene and Park Slope.

House tours took off in the mid-20th century to encourage homeownership and community involvement in older neighborhoods. This year, the Brooklyn Heights Association discontinued its decades-old house tour. It plans to replace it with a decorator show house, starting in spring 2017.
