Spend your February diving into the histories of Brooklyn’s people and architecture with a variety of tour offerings from the Municipal Art Society. If a bracing walk through the city isn’t what you are looking for, there are also virtual tours where you can soak up fascinating tales of the borough from the comfort of your sofa.
The Abolitionist Movement in Brooklyn
Wednesday, February 4
6-7:30 p.m.
Explore tales of Brooklynites who fought to end slavery with this virtual tour from Brownstoner columnist Suzanne Spellen. Buildings and locations in the borough that still stand as testament to this history will be highlighted during the talk. Tickets are $25 and $15 for MAS members and can be purchased online.
Brooklyn Academy of Music Cultural District
Saturday, February 7
11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Head outside for a wander past the buildings and institutions that make this district a cultural hub. Architectural historian Matt Postal will cover historic buildings, examples of adaptive reuse, and new construction. Tickets are $35 and $25 for MAS members and can be purchased online.

Greenpoint in Brooklyn

Spend Valentine’s Day exploring your love of history and Greenpoint with this in-person tour. MAS guide Zack Rhodes will delve into the social and architectural history of the neighborhood, including a look at its industrial past and arty present. Preservation Before the Landmarks Law

6-7:30 p.m.
Join historian James Russiello for a virtual exploration of New York City before the 1965 passage of the Landmarks Law. Russiello will share forgotten tales of the buildings and monuments that define the city. Tickets are $25 and $15 for MAS members and can be purchased online.
