Opening Soon
Grub Street takes a look inside St. Anslem (photo: Melissa Hom), the new haute snack bar (and member of the Spuyten Duyvil/Fette Sau family) with “plans to open later this month” at 355 Metropolitan Avenue, near Havemeyer Street, in Williamsburg… Grub Street also notes that the old Trout space is under new ownership: “The phone number CB 2 posted belongs to Lucky Boy Development, a Brooklyn residential developer whose projects include unbuilt luxury condos like the Cobble Hill Houses on Amity Street and the Williams in Williamsburg.” They’re looking to open “a restaurant with outdoor seating” in the old Trout digs, which doesn’t include the boarded up Bueno on the corner of Smith and Pacific.

Tina Gets Down ‘n’ Dirty with Peter Pan Donuts
Greenpointers shares this snippet from Tina Fey’s interview in the current issue of Esquire: “The best doughnut? That’s Peter Pan doughnuts in Brooklyn. It’s a Polish bakery. We shot nearby once for 30 Rock. It’s a white-cream-filled powdered doughnut. And I really believe, when I first tried it, if I had a penis, I would put it in this doughnut.”

Recently Reviewed: Iris Cafe and Bakeri
Oliver Strand for the New York Times hits up a couple of quality coffee shops and recommends the well-sourced eats at Iris Cafe in Brooklyn Heights: “Take the pastrami sandwich ($9). It’s a generous mound of tender beef from Dickson’s Farmstand Meats, a Chelsea butcher so new-school, it lists its abattoirs on its Web site.” At Bakeri in Williamsburg, Strand likes “the citrusy oil-packed tuna on still-warm ciabatta ($7) — it was delicate and satisfying, a quick bite of the highest order.”

After the jump: Time Out’s Eat Out Awards hit plenty of Brooklyn spots, an undercover lunch deal in Cobble Hill, and Eton’s Momofuku-ish pork buns…

Brooklyn’s Finest Eats
This week’s Eat Out Awards give some Time Out love to restaurants all over Brooklyn. Some highlights: On the Readers’ Choice side, Calexico Carne Asada won Best New Mexican, and Prime Meats won Best New Brooklyn Restaurant. The critics’ categories are more creative: Bark was named “Best in show,” Umi Nom took home “Best new flava in Bed-Stuy” and Mesa Coyoacán won “Best barrio bargain.”

Quick Bites
A Brooklyn Life shares a little-known lunch deal in Cobble Hill… And Chowhounds discuss the steamed pork buns at Eton: “Verdict? Not bad. Not as good as momofuku… Would prefer pork belly and a little less hoisin. But hey, at half the price of momofuku and a few doors away from me… I’ll be going back for them.”

  1. Don’t forget TONY’s award to Brooklyn Kitchen’s Chef’s Table Dinner, Cesar Ramirez’ $95 BYO 17-course masterpiece (soon to be $150 and another $95 for wine pairings).

  2. I just laughed out loud at Tina Fey’s penis comment.

All the talk of this woman being the “thinkin’ man’s sex symbol”… give me a break. She is fabulous and hilarious and smart as hell and sexy to any human with two brain cells rubbing together.
