Now Open: New Sushi Joint for Williamsburg
“The name is weird, the look is kind of bizarro, the menu, unusual, but who knows, maybe it will be a southside destination. The owners report that they’ll be serving a caliber of sushi heretofore unknown in Williamsburg. Either way, it’s fun to look at,” says Eater on Williamsburg’s white-on-white 1 or 8 (66 South 2nd Street between Wythe and Kent). They’ve posted the menu and a bunch of interior photos.

Now Open: More Mediterranean for Carroll Gardens
Grub Street reports that Palmyra is now open in the old Olive Vine space (316 Court Street between Degraw and Sackett) and is serving a “mezze-heavy menu.” Named for a city in Syria, the new spot’s fare is similar to its former occupant, but they’ve got some intriguing new offerings (like jawaneh, “baked then fried chicken wings marinated and served with garlic crème sauce”) and their breakfast menu (including omelets and chocolate-drizzled, phyllo-wrapped nutella, strawberries, banana, and pistachios) is served all day long.

Another New Restaurant for Smith Street
A new restaurant called Verde is set to open at 216 Smith Street (between Butler and Baltic), the former home of Valentina’s Laundromat. Cobble Hill Blog poses an interesting question: “Shall it be Latin food or green fare?”

After the jump: Kumquat Cupcakery and Liddabit Sweets hit Greenpoint, the best poutine in Brooklyn, and the great Totonno’s comeback…

Pop-Up Sweet Shop for Greenpoint
Time Out‘s The Feed reports: “Starting Thursday, the lovely ladies at Kumquat Cupcakery and Liddabit Sweets will be selling artisan treats out of a temporary storefront at Greenpoint’s Kill Devil Hill, whose owners are renting out the space to various artists, performers and vendors over the next two months. Sweet Shop will be open from 10am to 7pm daily from Thursday the 11th through Sunday the 14th, and both teams have whipped up festive Valentine’s Day treats.”

Crazy for Poutine
Endless Simmer took one for the team and reviewed “every New York restaurant currently serving poutine” so you don’t have to clog your arteries with anything but the best. The blogger paid visits to Corner Burger, Sheep Station, but declared Mile End‘s Poutine the finest in town.

Totonno’s: To Open or Not To Open?
The owners of Totonno’s told Slice that they were all set to reopen today. But between late permits and today’s snowfall, they may be delayed a bit longer. The latest comment from Adam Kuban: “My guess is that … oh, never mind. When it opens, it opens. This is a crazy saga!”

  1. corner burger serves poutine? i’ve never noticed, their fries kind of suck though so can’t imagine the poutine would be very good. sheep station is kind of annoying. no wonder mile end has lines out the wazoo. who knew there was such an untapped market for poutine? 🙂

btw, thanks for the info on palmyra. i was kind of baffled as to why it seemed like a new place replaced the old place with seemingly the same menu / cuisine but it sounds like there are some good things on the new menu. the wings sound very nice! and it did keep the most important thing, BYOB!
