This Week’s Openings
Eater dishes the details on the Manhattan Inn (632 Manhattan Avenue): “Those nutjob geniuses at Glasslands, the superhip rag tag performance space on Kent in Williamsburg, have managed to do something original and pretty damn good looking on an otherwise unexciting strip a block from McCarren Park. The bar and restaurant serves New American cuisine from chef Justin Farmer. Fancy cocktails, sourcing from Rooftop Farms, repurposed design details, you know the drill. And on that sweet, sweet baby grand? Ragtime.” … Plus, the NY Times reports that part of the General Greene “will become a market on Dec. 18 featuring house-made pickles, pastries, baby food, smoked fish, etc.”

Restaurant Gossip
New York Shitty says that “the man behind Brooklyn Standard and Papacitos” is going to open a wine bar called Cafe Royalle at 195 Nassau Avenue in Greenpoint… Grub Street notes that Tavern on the Green chief operating officer Michael Desiderio told Crain’s, Maybe we’ll open a Tavern on the Green hotel or a Tavern on the Green [restaurant] in Brooklyn. … Brooklyn Based says: “Freemans Williamsburgjust food, no clothing shop yetis definitely happening. The location is almost decided and that’s all we’re saying for now.” … And Eater brings word that Fort Greene veggie haven Red Bamboo is getting a new name and putting some real meat on the menu. The restaurant’s website says, “Aiming to meet the demand for a comfort foods spot in the neighborhood, Poppa’s Place will serve neo-American cuisine and will retain some of Red Bamboo’s signature dishes.”

Best Veggie Burger in Brooklyn?
Jonathan Safran Foer shares his favorite vegetarian-friendly Park Slope restaurants with The Brooklyn Paper and gives a ringing endorsement to Bonnie’s Grill: Their veggie burger is f—king great! I remember what hamburgers were like, but, believe it or not, I would choose their veggie burger over a hamburger. I know that sounds just like what a vegetarian would say, but they are maddeningly good. We’re wondering how it stacks up against our favorite veggie burger at Downtown Bar & Grill in Cobble Hill…

After the jump: The Times hits up Henry Public and Chowhounders recommend cannoli, cheap eats around the Dyker Lights, and the best under-the-radar pizza in Brooklyn…

Recently Reviewed: Henry Public
329 Henry Street (Atlantic Avenue), Cobble Hill; (718) 852-8630.
“The top sandwich on the list of three is turkey leg ($12) braised in organic milk, and dressed in peppery pan gravy and fried onions between thick Orwasher’s slices, the bottom soaking up the sauce like a drunk. Enjoy it alongside a sweet and tart Ward Six cocktail, two steps removed from a Ward Eight with applejack and pomegranate molasses standing in for rye and grenadine.” [NY Times]

Chowhound Buzz
Chowhound MacGuffin says, you haven’t had cannoli until you’ve tried Mondial‘s in Bensonhurt. CHOW’s Outer Borough Digest dishes more details on where to find superior sweets — like rainbow cakes and chocolate coconut custard pie… If you’re planning on checking out the Dyker Lights this season, Chowhound Tay recommends stopping at Spartan Souvlaki for a bite to eat: “Get the Spartan chicken on pita, tomato/feta salad or their outstanding fries.” … And another ‘Hound who goes by SpankyTomato raves about Peter Pizza “in this odd little corner of Bensonhurst, at Stillwell Avenue and 80th Street… Peter makes pizza like he was born doing it and will regale you with amazing stories of Brooklyn while he’s slinging pies. So for the incredible pizza and entertainment experience, Peter is my number one choice.”
