Celebrate the Season With Brooklyn Christmas Tree Lighting Festivities

Brooklyn will soon be glowing as the holiday lights are turned on and celebrations bring music, food and other activities across the borough. Santa and other holiday fun will be on hand with Christmas tree lighting ceremonies from the weekend after Thanksgiving through the middle of December.

5th Avenue Park Slope Tree Lighting
4th Street Plaza at 5th Avenue, Park Slope
Saturday, November 26, 5 – 6 p.m.

Cap off an afternoon of Small Business Saturday shopping along 5th Avenue by joining local organizations and businesses for the annual tree lighting ceremony. There will be lots of family-friendly activities including face painting, bubble making, a craft spot for drafting letters to Santa as well as music and treats. Santa will also be on hand for photos.

Light Up Brooklyn Commons
100 Myrtle Avenue, Downtown Brooklyn
Wednesday, November 30, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

The rebranded MetroTech will be ringing in the holiday season with live ice carving and an ice sculpture exhibition, a performance by the students of Brooklyn United, ice skating and holiday treats. The tree lighting and a visit from Santa will close out the event at 6:45 p.m. All activities during the event are free, registration is encouraged.

Dumbo Tree Lighting

Thursday, December 1, 4 to 7 p.m.

The Dumbo Improvement District is sponsoring a jam-packed event that promises Santa, calypso music, festive projections on the Manhattan Bridge and performances by local school choirs. This tree lighting also has an opportunity to give back — you can bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Big Brooklyn Holiday Toy Drive, a coat in good condition for the New York Cares Coat Drive and non-perishables for the Vinegar Hill Pantry Food Drive.

Hendrick I. Lott House Holiday Celebration
1940 East 36th Street, Marine Park
Friday, December 2, 6 p.m.

The Friends of Lott House will be celebrating the season with their annual tree lighting on the grounds surrounding the historic house. The festivities will include music, hot cocoa and a photo opportunity with Sinterklaas.

Fort Greene Holiday Tree Lighting
Fort Greene Park, near the Myrtle Avenue and St. Edwards Street entrance
Sunday, December 4, 4 to 5 p.m.

There will be hot cocoa to enjoy, live music and a chance to write a letter to Santa before the lighting of the tree. You can also help the giving spirit by bringing a new, unwrapped toy for the Myrtle Avenue Toy Drive.

Grand Army Plaza Christmas Tree Lighting
Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Arch
Thursday, December 14, 4 p.m.

The Diocese of Brooklyn will celebrate the season with the formal lighting of a Christmas tree that will stay lit 24 hours a day, seven days a week until January.

Brooklyn Heights Promenade Tree Lighting

Wednesday, December 14, 5:30 p.m.

Santa usually makes an appearance at the annual low-key Brooklyn Heights celebration, with neighbors gathering for a countdown to the tree lighting.
