Quite a day on Grand Avenue. As we reported this morning, there was a shooting at the Clean Society Cleaners at the corner of Grand and Clifton Place yesterday and DEA agents were seen carrying money and drugs out of that location. Now we have received a tip that there are ambulances outside 417 Grand, between Gates and Putnam, after a drug raid happened in which officers were injured. A neighbor wrote in to say that it was a “siege (with) SWAT teams and everything.” Cops have cleared the street.

Looks like law enforcement is stepping up its game after all!

  1. Too late. Seems a bit like the “dope on the table” move from The Wire. Police gotta show they’re “in charge” of the situation…bust a few heads, take a few photos. Next week, dealing returns.

  2. Narcotics agents get hungry too. Maybe the catering is for them.

As pres of a block association that’s had its share of drugs and shootings, I will tell you that wanting the cops to shut down gangs and noted hot spots is our most common denominator. And guess who’s the strongest supporters of stop and frisk and vertical patrols? Not the recent white newbies. They’re mostly stuck on civil rights over the right to life. Those old enough to see drugs tear apart families know that vigilance is the only deterrent. SMART vigilance, not capricious. But vigilance nonetheless.

Just because you’re facing systematic racism and getting kicked out of your homes by hyper-capitalism doesn’t mean you don’t want your kids to be safe from guns and drugs. I sense a lot of single men among the trolls. Well, thank goodness they’re not having children…

  3. There’s actually a film shoot in progress on that block, complete with trucks and catering tables, just out of the frame on the left of the photo above. Fantasy land, meet real life in Clinton Hill. Oh wait, maybe the whole thing was staged and it’s part of the film?
