bklyn-larder-0609.jpgFoodies, take note! Bklyn Larder, the high-end deli brought to you by the folks behind Franny’s, opened yesterday at 228 Flatbush Avenue. Cozy Josie reports that it has “a deli counter on one side and shelves and fridges on the other, with eight seats up front.” An impressive meat and cheese selection is complemented by some familiar names from the Brooklyn artisanal (and Flea!) scene. 1. Beautiful space, excellent visual merchandising, great products, stupid as hell location (lost in a line of non-descript shops catering to the wrong type of customers), space is too small to stock the full variety of items a high-end grocery buyer would be looking for.

The old video store front near The Farm would have been the ideal location – lots of store front to show off the product and the right type of customer just steps away.

    Location does matter.

  2. I stopped by last night and bought a few items. The blue cheese and sausage were excellent. I didn’t think the prices for those were bad but I picked up a chocolate bar that looked good not noticing it was $7.50 for 3 oz. Other than the chocolate a great place and I’ll go back.

  3. Happened to walk by…can’t remember why I was on Flatbush this weekend…oh, yes…on my way to the coop. Anyway, the new shop wasn’t open but it looked very sleek and nice. It is rather shocking the cool, mod things coming in…very odd up against the old-timers.

    All the best to them!

  4. I stopped in to check it out last night on my way to dinner… it looks really nice. Great products, and a nice, uncluttered feel (for now anyway). However, at first glance it seems more expensive than nearby Blue Apron and Union Market. Maybe the rent on Flatbush is higher.
