Bernie Back in Brooklyn: Sanders to Give Brooklyn College Commencement Speech
The senator is returning to the borough of his birth in May for Brooklyn College’s graduation.
Brooklyn will welcome back one of its most famous sons this spring.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will return to the borough of his birth and formative years to deliver the commencement speech for Brooklyn College’s Class of 2017 at Barclays Center, according to a tweet sent out by the school. Brooklyn College’s website indicates that the tentative date for the ceremony is May 30.

Sanders, an independent who ran for the Democratic nomination for president this past year, has served in the Senate since 2007, before which he was a United States Representative for Vermont and the mayor of Burlington, Vt.
Sanders is a native of Midwood, and graduated from Sheepshead Bay’s James Madison High School in 1959. He also attended Brooklyn College for an academic year in 1959-1960, before eventually transferring to the University of Chicago.
