According to Atlantic Yards Report, the firm that was manufacturing the steel for the Barclays Center facade has gone out of business, raising questions about whether the arena’s construction will stay on schedule. The company, ASI Limited, abruptly went out of business after Christmas. AY Report notes it’s “unclear how much of the steel has been fabricated and delivered by ASI Limited, but a considerable amount of facade work remains to be done.” The facade was supposed to be in place by mid-May. Developer Forest City Ratner and the Empire State Development Corporation declined to comment on the turn of events.

  1. BTW for accuracy ASI has not gone out of business:

ASI Ltd. has suspended operations at its Whitestown, Ind., facility, according to a December 30 notice from ASI owner Ken Smith. “Management is currently reviewing its financial viability moving forward,” according to the notice. “It is hopeful that we can re-commence operations sometime in the near future.”

My guess is this is some sort of labor negotiating tactic:

‘Typically when a business folds, it notifies the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, but the office had not received a notification by close of business Friday.”
