It looks like the new bar and restaurant going in at 519 Metropolitan Avenue in the old El Moderno space is getting ready to open soon. When a tipster stopped by last week, the outside looked just about done and a distributor was delivering lots of kegs on the sidewalk.
He had no information about what the new venue will be, and we couldn’t find much about it online. An outfit called Media 5 Co. LLC, identified as a bar and restaurant, started the process of applying for a liquor license last year, according to a Community Board 1 agenda. We couldn’t find any more info at the SLA.
The location is a prominent corner at Union Avenue across from Kellogg’s Diner. Anyone have any intel? GMAP
Update: It’s a bar called Sugarburg and it opened Saturday, according to a commenter.

El Moderno closed? That was possibly the worst restaurant ever.
