Fancy a dip in a pool in the East River, off Brooklyn Bridge Park? The idea for a project called +Pool may make it possible to do just that, according to a story in The Eagle that says the brainchild of folks who work at a firm called PlayLab is entering a “technical testing phase” examining whether filtration systems could make the river water clean enough to swim in. The pool would be a four-in-one structure involving a children’s pool, sports pool, lap pool and lounge pool. The location off Brooklyn Bridge Park isn’t a sure thing, though Nancy Webster, executive director of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, tells the Eagle that her organization would love to see the return of a pool given the success of 2007’s floating pool. (In January, Brooklyn Bridge Park applied for a floating-pool permit from the DEC, though it’s unclear whether that’s distinct from the +Pool plans.) The +Pool proposal is still theoretical and would need to be cleared by city officials; in the meantime, there’s a fundraiser page for it on Kickstarter.
