4th Avenue Really Was Brooklyn's Park Avenue

Completely depressing or what? Bob Levine, from whose collection this photo comes, provides a lengthy history lesson on the thoroughfare in advance of the Council’s summit meeting tonight on the topic. More info here.
A Thoroughfare of Uncertain Direction [PSCC]
4th Avenue isn’t in Park Slope. Why does it have to look like Park Slope? It can look like downtown or Gowanus or Sunset Park or Bay Ridge.
The photo doesn’t specify what section of 4th Ave. it depicts. Could be further south than the Park Slope/Gowanus area.
Yeah, I have NO problems crossing 4th. Either wait for the green or a gap in traffic which often happens when the next light turns red, it’s not rocket science.
lol of course im not running on a red light. jeez. im not suicidal! the light changes very fast, which isnt really a problem for me, it’s moreso the nutballs who make a right turn really fast! again, i dont mind, cyclists are far worse on the road than drivers.

Rob, are you crossing in a green light or trying to run across on a red, expecting everyone to slow/stop for you? 0 sympathy for red-light runners who get killed.
Sky walkways over parts of 4th avenue would be nice. i too have been almost run over many times crossing that road, but i dont like complaining about stuff like that because i know it’s essentially a highway!

It is my undertanding that this discussion does not just affect 4th avenue in Park Slope. The discussion will cover 4th ave through Sunset Park and Bay Ridge.
It would be great if we could put tulip beds up 4th Ave., like on Park Ave. Give us a nice place to run to when we’re about to get run over.
Nostalgia is nice, but I don’t think Fourth Avenue was ever anything much, let alone “Park Avenue”.
