Pardon Me For Asking noticed that the Mexican joint at 213 Smith Street (simply called 213 Mexican) was papered up, and when we stopped by it looked closed for good to us. Anyone hear anything differently? This place has only been in this location since early this year. GMAP

  1. wrong, ihearttacos, name change involved big change…I hated pitayo and didn’t even bother with 213 – until friend who grew up in mexico city recommended and said how fresh the food was.

  2. Yes, new name and look, but this was Mexican for a long while. The new regime had great takeaway. Really yummy burritos, and the quesadillas were first rate. Here’s hoping this is just reno and not bye-bye.

  3. I started going to 213 when Mezcal’s closed after 20 years on Atlantic. I was sad and happy to see they had adopted one of the servers that must have been a teenager when I started going to Mezcals. I thought 213 was pretty good, too bad, there are very few sit down Mexican restaurants run by actual Mexicans around here. For lunch I go to the Mexican grocery on Hoyt between Atlantic and State, thats some good stuff, I heard about it on here from Rob, I think.

  4. I know were not doing well….which is unfortunate because I thought was very good and not a typical (burrito, taco, tamale) mexican restaurant. I think public didn’t realize changed dramatically from previous El Pitayo which was bad bad.
Yet, I think some remodeling is going on….floors looked like being refinished, etc…so maybe just sprucing up. We’ll see.

Surprised didn’t notice the Casserta Vecchia papered over also (same block) with sign that said remodeling and opening with new management. They had been there 9 years —also a good neighborhood place.
