Also if you reupholster a couch like this you can change its appearance. The frame is just a frame, you can alter the line of the back, arms, etc.
prodigal and traditionalmod, I have a 25 year old couch that’s been recovered twice and going strong. I did not pay $10k for it event adjusting for inflation. While it’s correct that there’s plenty of cheap throw-away furniture, it’s equally ridiculous to say that you have to pay $10,000 for a durable couch. But then, that’s no different than people popping that amount for a Wolf range or Sub-Par refrigerator.
i have no prob with used furniture. i found my fav. chair and couch that i sleep on (yes i sleep on a couch instead of a bed in my room cuz i like to pretend my room is a small studio and not a bedroom hahahah). no bedbegs. i guess ive gotten lucky with furniture. i should take a pic of my red chair tho. it’s so vintage and really old i wonder if it’s a good piece.

I agree Prodigal, it’s pearls before swine. But I really think the shorter 6-foot size at George Smith covered in the plain linen wouldn’t be $10K new. More like $6K.
As for some people only buying new furniture all the time because they think used furniture is “gross”, I think cheaply constructed furniture one merely throws in the garbage when it gets worn out is gross. My friend is a decorator/upholsterer in wealthy historic community in NJ and she said she finds cheap, bad construction all the time when she tears off the outer upholstery on expensive new furniture her clients bring in. So just imagine what it looks like on the inside of a cheap new sofa. You’re basically buying disposable furniture destined for the landfill. A vintage or antique sofa, or a George Smith sofa, can be reupholstered and used over and over again through generations.
No one mentioned that it’s also butt fugly..
Yeah, it’s a “steal”…as in they’re stealing your money.
who knows if someone jellybagged on that or not!

I prefer Karl Farghman designs.
OMG, I wouldn’t want a used piece of upholstered furniture for any price or for no price.
Does this have anything to do with the story of the snake found under the cushions of a sofa in Brooklyn the other day?????
I posted this in the forum – Thought it was highly relevant and amusing…
