The owner of a relatively recent gut renovated brownstone has noticed the top floor seems to be sinking towards the center of the building. A bearing wall was removed underneath and the homeowner suspects some corners may have been cut. The work was all done before they purchased the house so they aren’t sure of the next steps in investigating the issue. Should they find a contractor or go right to consulting with an engineer?

Please chime in with your advice.
