New brownstone owners just got their first heating bill and are still recovering from the sticker shock. The house is empty while they await the start of their renovation in the spring so they are looking for safe ways to cut down their heating bill. Can they shut off the heat without risking damage? How best can they winterize the building until they are ready to start work?
