A Brownstoner reader is planning a brownstone renovation and trying to get a handle on what it will cost. But estimates so far have varied wildly — $100,000 per floor, $300-1,000 per square foot, no less than $1 million total.
How can he or she get a realistic estimate of what it’ll cost? And how do you know if it’s a fair price? One commenter suggested asking neighbors who have done similar projects for input; another said going for the lowest price will almost certainly end up in disappointment.
