Queens Courier reports that the Glen Oaks Library, which opened this September, will represent New York State for 2013 Building of the Year by American-Architects.com. Here’s what the architecture firm on the project, Marble Fairbanks, told American Architects about the design:

“We were also interested in the building becoming a beacon for the neighborhood. The previous library building had a solid brick façade, so this project was an opportunity to transform that relationship and engage the community by exposing much of the interior to the street. The glass storefront and channel glass provide visual transparency and a luminous glow.”

You can vote for the Glen Oaks Library here — voting will continue online until January 31st. The Queens Chamber of Commerce already honored the building during its annual Building Awards last week.
