The Bed Stuy House Tour Will Continue for the 42nd Year With a Virtual Event

While those eager to get a peek inside the architectural delights of Bed Stuy won’t be able to stroll through the houses in person this year, the annual house tour will go on. The 42nd annual Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant house tour is going virtual for 2020, joining the ranks of online public programs in order to keep the important community tradition alive in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.

The event, which aims to raise awareness about homeownership and neighborhood history as well as raise funds for scholarships, will take place on Saturday, October 17.

Acting as host for the online program will be Monique Greenwood-Pogue, owner of Akwaaba Bed and Breakfast Inns, which includes the brick Italianate at 347 MacDonough Street in Stuyvesant Heights. Online participants will also be able to learn about the history of the organization, which was founded in 1978 by a group of civic-minded neighbors to encourage people to “Come on Home to Bed-Stuy.”

As usual, no hints are being given away about which homes will be featured on this year’s tour, just the intel that the virtual program will feature several homes and gardens.

The online event will take place on Zoom, and while past tours have run from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., the exact timing of this year’s event has not yet been announced. The optional first-time homebuyers seminar will follow the tour. Tickets are $15 and are available online. The Zoom links for the tour and the seminar will be available to ticket holders on the morning of the event.

Update: The tour will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, and can be viewed any time for seven days, until Friday, October 23 at 11 p.m.
