Is this a good time to buy? Can I see houses in-person right now? Is now even the right time? These are questions that New York City homeowners and renters can find answers to during Brownstoner’s free webinar, “Curious About Moving to Westchester?” on May 28 at 3 p.m.

The webinar, part of the Brownstoner Home Events series, will include Licensed Real Estate Associate Broker Ann Marie Damashek of Compass; Richard DeSimone of Quintessential Mortgage; and attorney Martha Sokol-McCarty.

Damashek, based in Larchmont, N.Y., said that interest in properties has been strong in Westchester. “We’re seeing lots of demand from both buyers and renters looking to move to the suburbs.”

DeSimone, based in White Plains, N.Y., said that banks are avoiding what they consider “riskier” loans. “Those loans include no-income verification loans for self-employed borrowers, loans for borrowers with low credit scores and cash-out refinances,” he said. “With that being said, borrowers with excellent credit are being rewarded with historically low rates.”

Mamaroneck, N.Y.-based Sokol-McCarty, a sole practitioner with more than 30 years of experience, said that buyers making the move to the suburbs are often surprised at the many legal hurdles that exist. “They do need guidance through the purchase process, help with financing issues and assurance that the property they’re buying has good title,” she said.

Sponsors include Compass Greater New York; Quintessential Mortgage and attorney Martha Sokol-McCarty.
