Work’s continuing on 220 Water Street, the Dumbo warehouse conversion that will have 159 units, according to a DOB permit. There hadn’t been much visible work on the building—which has been slated for residential conversion since 2007—until recently, but now it appears to be full steam ahead, with new windows making an appearance. It’s unclear whether this one will be a rental or a condo.

  1. and the building attached to it on the right has almost the same windows but are 12 lites over 12, they look nice also, i wonder why they did not follow suit and but the 2 over 2…They look nice anyway.

  2. I’m not sure they are really historically accurate but they look good. So nice to see someone trying. The crap that most developers perpetrate…

  3. Thanks Gman. Work started here before the LPC designation, which is why I asked if it was approved (could have been grandfathered). now I’m going to have dig up the original drawings on this to see if these are actually “correct”!!

  4. How do we know these windows are correct? It’s an industrial building, which used to have multi-light steel sash (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emilio_guerra/4329749185/). So these completely change the look of the building – maybe back to the original, I don’t know. The building was constructed in 1893, so it certainly possible that the original windows looked like this (in wood). Curious as to whether these were approved by LPC or not.

On a related note – does anyone know if this is still a preservation tax credit project? It was approved for one in 2008. If it is, then it is a rental almost certainly.
