Celebrated Poet Max Blagg to Read at Penthouse for Sale in South Williamsburg Landmark
The penthouse is in the landmarked Smith-Gray building.
Poet and performer Max Blagg will give a private reading to celebrate his new book Slow Dazzle: Poems and Prose for 23 Artists. The program includes a piece called ‘Walkabout NYC,’ in which the British-born Blagg reflects on his four decades of living in New York City. Also on display will be five of the poet’s most recent art works.
The salon evening, hosted by Corcoran, will take place in a for-sale penthouse that sits atop the Smith Gray Building at 138 Broadway in south Williamsburg. Refreshments from nearby Marlow & Daughters will be served.
Known for a series of typewriter sculptures, Blagg has collaborated with such artists as Richard Prince, Larry Clark and Jerelyn Hanrahan. Slow Dazzle, a collaborative book, features original prose and poetry based on visual art from other artists.
The unit for sale and the site of the reading is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse. The well-known 1884 cast-iron building served as headquarters and store for children’s clothing maker Smith, Gray & Co.
The home has three private outdoor spaces, which total 660 combined square feet and offer views of the Manhattan skyline and the Williamsburg Bridge.
The 2,000-plus-square-foot interior has hardwood floors, exposed brick, and exposures on all four sides across the two floors. The building has a common roof deck, video intercom, HVAC system, and laundry on every floor.
The penthouse, listed by Corcoran agents Jon Miller and Kyle Sennish, is asking $2.649 million. Monthly taxes are $1,371 and common charges $1,469.
