This two-family house at 65 Pineapple Street in Brooklyn Heights has got some alluring prewar features — and by that we mean pre-Civil War. This one dates to 1835, a rarity in Brooklyn, and was built in a transitional Federal-Greek Revival style, according to Old Brooklyn Heights: New York’s First Suburb.

There aren’t too many of those around Brooklyn either. In fact, the words “museum worthy” might spring to mind when viewing the photos. The house has been updated and seems eminently livable, yet it appears to have an impressive amount of original detail left.

That includes lovely wide-plank floors, moldings, black-marble fireplaces (there are six mantels in total) and columns. Note the triangular pediments over some doors and windows — another special detail that fits with the house’s transitional Federal-Greek Revival style.

Some of the detail — like the ceiling moldings and some of the medallions — has presumably been re-created, given that the place has been renovated, but it’s nicely done.

The kitchen, in a rear addition, is modern, with a skylight, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and a Viking cooktop — though it’s also got ceiling moldings and a medallion, and incorporates two floor-to-ceiling mahogany mirrors, for a mix of antique and modern.

There’s a large tiled deck beyond the kitchen, with steps down to the garden.

The garden level holds a one-bedroom apartment; the upper triplex has three bedrooms. A master suite with a full bath and walk-in closet takes up the second floor; the third floor holds the two other bedrooms, both good-sized.

This was a House of the Day back in 2012, when it was listed for $3.1 million; it ended up going for $3.3 million. Listed by Karen Heyman and Alan Heyman of Sotheby’s International, it’s now asking $5.795 million.

A substantial sum, but it’s a piece of history, and it’s in a prime North Heights location, if not on the area’s most desirable block. What do you think?
