Now that there’s no longer any scaffolding surrounding the Con Ed Site on 3rd Avenue where a warehouse was demolished, there’s a clear view of the extant wall on the property that runs up part of 1st Street. As has been well-documented, baseball historians have long debated whether the wall has a connection to the Dodgers. The photo above shows the 3rd Avenue side of the wall; click through to see what remains on 1st Street. Meanwhile, if Con Ed plans to build something to replace the warehouse that was knocked down, that has yet to be reflected in DOB filings.

  1. The team was known at different points as the Brooklymn Grays, the Brooklyn Grooms, the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, the Brooklyn Superbas and the Brooklyn Robins. All of those names were used by fans and sportswriters to describe the team, but not in any official capacity. The team’s legal name was the Brooklyn Base Ball Club.

  2. I think it’s pretty cool that it could be a portion of the wall once surrounding the field where the Brooklyn Dodgers played. I’m surprised it’s been debated and can’t be confirmed definitively one way or the other.

  3. Less and less of our history left every day.

bkn4life: I’ll play stickball with you on 3rd Ave any time! Althought 1st St might be safer…

  4. dont think any connection to the dodgers, but as a federal league field(like wrigley) it should be preserved and honored somehow. stick ball anyone?

    damn that landis guy anyways….
