Design-event curator and store WantedDesign is hosting a multifaceted, 10-day-long program at Sunset Park’s Industry City, which will coincide with the industrial park’s annual Open Studios.

WantedDesign’s event will feature 16 exhibitions by local and national design groups including the community- and economic development–focused Identity Design Action: East New York; Gowanus’ glass art facility Brooklyn Glass; and The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design’s textile and furniture studio Made in Western North Carolina.

In addition, there will also be a collaboration-focused competition, the Design Schools Workshop, in which students from around the globe will collaborate with various Brooklyn-based makers to create handmade projects that resonate with this year’s theme of playfulness. A public presentation of each team’s finished products will be held on May 16 at WantedDesign’s Manhattan location.

This year’s WantedDesign will also feature workshops and presentations, including Unity Quilt demonstrations and a talk by the Italian Factory of Design’s Alberto Alessi. A full daily program is available on WantedDesign’s website.

The design fair runs between May 7-17, but will only be open on some days during that period. For the full schedule and to register online for the free event see WantedDesign’s registration page.

The fair will overlap with Industry City Open Studios, which takes place from 1-6 p.m. on May 14-15. The annual event will this year feature 75 of the complex’s artists, makers and manufacturers who will open their doors to the public for free.
