Unnameable Books recently shuttered its Park Slope location on Bergen Street. The shop—which TONY noted has “a cluttered, top-shelf inventory that could keep you reading great tomes for the next decade”—is in the process of moving into its new home in Prospect Heights, on Vanderbilt near the corner of St. Marks. While this is sad news for Park Slope’s indie bookstore scene (are there any mom-and-pop bookshops left besides the Community Bookstore?) at least it didn’t go out of business. We’re not sure when the Vanderbilt space is opening, but a peek inside last week revealed that shelving is in place. GMAP

  1. “I gotta say though, they need to improve their inventory.”

They also could jazz up their presentation, if only a little bit. Based on the Bergen Street place, it’s clear they aren’t relying much on professional (or even competent) merchandising. I know it’s just a bookstore and books are the main attraction, but even some flowers would be nice. The Bergen Street place looked like a glorified jail cell with books.

  2. “i did notice when walking by over the weekend that there is a sign inside that says “Please Don’t Steal the Books.” this does not strike me as the right way to get people in the neighborhood feeling warm and fuzzy about your store.”

that sign was on the books set outside on the street at the park slope location. They were a buck or something.

  3. 11217, back from Mars! Rock on.

You could browse and browse in the old place on Bergen. the shopkeeper never seemed to stir from sitting at the desk and playing jazz on the computer.

There’s Babboo (SP.?) Books on Prospect Park West, bet. Windsor and Prospect

  5. Good to see you back, 11217.

I hope the book store has better luck here. I gotta say though, they need to improve their inventory. A bit lackluster when I dropped by the Bergen Street location.

  6. Was up and down Vanderbilt a ton this weekend, and I couldn’t believe how great it’s looking…those new trees in the median looks especially great! I think this strip is one of my new favorites in Brooklyn…I definitely prefer it over 5th or 7th. Lots of cool places and glad unnameable books isn’t going too far.

  7. this is a nice addition to vanderbilt.
