Billed as “The Greatest Carnival in North America,” the West Indies Day Parade is certainly hard to miss. The annual celebration of Caribbean culture is returning to Eastern Parkway this Labor Day for another year of colorful plumage and costumed dancing.

The parade itself will march through Crown Heights on Monday, September 7, marking the culmination of a week of festivities.

The West Indian American Day Carnival Association, which organizes the parade, has planned a weeklong Labor Day concert series at the Brooklyn Museum. Beginning Thursday, September 3, there will be various traditional and modern Caribbean events, including a Freedom Festival, Brass Fest and Dimanche Gras.

To participate in the parade, you need only venture to Eastern Parkway on Labor Day. The Brooklyn Museum concert series is ticketed.

  1. Off topic but did anyone notice Laurie Cumbo’s donation of $3.5M to MoCADA in her announcement today. She founded this organization and now as a council contributing our hard earned money to some organization that only her and cronies care about. This lady is terrible.

  2. There are many more art related organizations that can benefit from this money. Selecting an organization that she founded to receive the most funds is somewhat shady business.
