A large dose of understanding is coming to Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 with the waterfront green space’s newest art exhibition, a 25-foot-high rotating sculpture that spells out the word “understanding” in all-caps red neon letters.

A site-specific installation by British artist Martin Creed, the message joins Deborah Kass’ OY YO sculpture in bringing written contemporary art to the area. “Understanding” will be visible from Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan and the East River.

The speed at which the steel letters rotate will vary based on a computer program. The base of the structure, its form inspired by a ziggurat, will serve as public seating for park-goers.

The piece will be on display from May 4 to October 23.
