Veteran rapper Ice Cube, pop superstar Janelle Monae, electro-rock favorites TV on the Radio and more will make an appearance in Fort Greene this summer as headliners of the 2016 Afropunk Fest in Commodore Barry Park. A celebration of DIY and alternative black culture, the fest is known for its musically and culturally diverse lineups and fashion-forward crowds since it first launched at BAM in 2005.

This year’s event takes place on August 27 and 28, with performances spanning three stages. Among the other acts are Detroit-born rapper Angel Haze, Odd Future members Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, Parliament Funkadelic’s George Clinton, experimental duo Shabazz Palaces, and jazz-fusion bassist and singer Thundercat, plus other established acts and up-and-comers.

While the fest used to be free, it began charging for admission last year. Tickets are on sale now, with the most affordable Tier 1 option already sold out. Remaining general-admission weekend passes cost between $45-75. There is also an option to volunteer at the fest in exchange for tickets.

For the full lineup and a performance breakdown by day and stage, see Afropunk’s website.

And to hold you over till August, here’s Janelle Monae featuring Prince (RIP) on a cut from her 2013 album The Electric Lady.
