As February draws to a close so does Black Artstory Month, an annual, monthlong series of free events related to the black experience put on by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership.

For those who missed it, there is still one event and an exhibit left before the start of March ends the celebration, which is alternatively titled Some Assembly Required.

The Glass Eye, a dance performance based on “the disembodiment of the black body through police violence,” focuses on the different perceptions and symbolism of a camera’s presence on a body of authority. Featuring dance group Hot Hands and members of the Victorious Dance Company, the multidisciplinary performance will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, February 26, at BLDG 92 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

While the event is free, space is limited and the press release advises to arrive early. RSVP online here.

In addition to the dance performance, the Myrtle Avenue Partnership’s self-guided Artwalk, entitled “Art Inside/Outside,” is still open for perusal. The exhibit, which features the work of 15 New York-based artists in the form of window murals and installations, is displayed across 12 independent businesses along Myrtle Avenue between Flatbush Avenue Extension and Classon Avenue, as well as at BLDG 92 in the Navy Yard.

The art on display explores various themes relevant to the black community, from President Obama to hair braiding.
