A developer’s plan to convert the Park Slope Pavilion movie theater into condos will be scrutinized at a hearing by the Community Board 6 Landmarks Committee Thursday, according to an announcement we received from community organization Park Slope Civic Council.

As we’ve reported, owner Hidrock Realty filed plans in April to create 24 condos, an underground parking garage, and some 8,000 square feet of retail space on the site of the long-running theater.

The development – which will include a new building constructed adjacent to the Pavilion, on a one-story site formerly occupied by a restaurant — will include a smaller art-house theater, according to Hidrock.

Because the building at 188 Prospect Park West falls within the Park Slope Historic District, the developers need approval from the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. Hidrock has said they plan few changes to the exterior beyond restoration of some historic features, though they do plan to add a sixth story to the five-story theater, which will be set back from the roofline.

The firm has enlisted architect Morris Adjmi, who converted the Wythe Hotel from an old factory in Williamsburg to great acclaim. Hidrock is part of large commercial real estate firm Hidrock Properties, which has been in business since the 1970s.

The hearing on July 23 will take place at 6 p.m. at the 78th Precinct, located at 65 6th Avenue between Dean and Bergen streets. The committee will make a recommendation to the LPC, which will hold a second hearing on August 4 at the Manhattan Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street, 9th floor, at 9:30 a.m.

If the plan is approved, Hidrock hopes to start construction by the end of the year.
