Here’s an early-20th-century one-family close to the park in Crown Heights south with a lot of charming period details.

There are beams, a working fireplace with an original mantel, herringbone floors, charming moldings, a globe light on the newel post — the works. We’re guessing it will need some skim coating in a bedroom and work in the main bathroom, at least, but the bones are good.

We like the location two blocks from the park and not far from shops and restaurants on Franklin on the other side of Eastern Parkway. But just be aware, it’s next to a church and close to one of the two Crown Heights armories at 1555 Bedford Avenue.

There’s an open house this Sunday from noon to 2 pm. What do you think of the house and the ask of $1,100,000?

  1. 1. The house looks dark with low ceilings, not sure if the photos are poor or this is how it really looks.
    2. The backyard will require work to be usable, there is a huge root from the tree that needs to be taken care off, and overall, it needs a nice landscaping job, budget 50K for it.

  2. The armory can be a good thing especially if it gets developed as proposed. I would love to be across the street from a ymca type gym like the one at the park slope armory. It’s also close to butter and scotch and the mountain which are great eateries. Also you can’t beat the train access. But it’s sister house behind it has been on the market for over a year. it started out under a million and instead of lowering their price they increased it. I don’t really understand that logic.

  3. Yeah I wouldn’t want to live next to a church. Some of these churches have seriously loud music and etc. going on from 7-8am to like 3 in the afternoon, and then again at night. Plus all the double and triple parking.
