213 jay street rendering

New York YIMBY has published renderings of the 33-story mixed-use tower that will replace a century-old office building at the corner of Jay and Nassau Streets in Downtown Brooklyn. While the color of the building is rust, we don’t yet know if the actual material is rusted steel, like Barclays Center. Well-known architecture firm Woods Bagot designed the structure, which is now going by the address 213 Jay Street.

Floors 2 through 8 will house a mix of hotel rooms and apartments, and then the rest of the building will be residential units, according to permits filed last month. There will be 381 apartments and 119 hotel rooms. The seven-story office building that’s being demolished on the property has a main address at 199 Jay Street, but the site is known by several addresses, including 120 Nassau Street, 203 Jay Street, and now 213 Jay Street.

The development will also feature a public plaza, an underground parking garage for 95 cars, three roof terraces, bike storage, a fitness center and community space. What do you think of the design? If it is made of steel, is DoBro ready for another Barclays Center-style rusted building?

  1. I’m against this. The Barclays Center is not too much of a problem as its not really a tall building, but having a rusted skyscraper tower really doesn’t look to good in my opinion. They should try better.
