Cosmetics Store to Open on Court Street in Cobble Hill

Benefits Cosmetics has just rented a space on Court Street in Cobble Hill. The San Francisco-based company founded by two sisters in 1976 is now a subsidiary of Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey. There are Benefit Cosmetics locations in Manhattan, Los Angeles, London, Frankfurt and Hong Kong among others. This is the is the company’s first Brooklyn outlet.

The shop at 168 Court Street will occupy the 600 square foot retail space and also have access to a large basement and a back yard. Benefit expects to open by the end of the year.

In a release the brokers at CPEX, which represented the property owners, say that the space generated a bidding war between potential tenants. The asking rent was $9,000 a month. According to its own study of retail rents in the area, properties were renting for $65 to $75 a square foot in 2013. It’s 2014 report found that retail rents jumped to $150 to $199 a square foot.

Benefit Cosmetics replaces Elleven, a jewelry store that moved to Smith Street earlier this year.
