The listing copy is selling this new-construction three-bedroom, two-bath duplex in Red Hook as a summer party pad. “You could throw the best parties of the season here” reads the copy, with 1,350 square feet of space, a roof terrace and a parking spot in the cement-covered front yard.

It’s only a couple blocks from the water, two parks and Ikea. But like most Red Hook rentals, the price seems high for the location, which is a mile from the nearest subway stop. Then again, it’s cheaper than the Hamptons. What’s your opinion of it for $4,000 a month?

  1. $4,000/month for this 3 bedroom in the middle of nowhere sure makes $2,800 for that Crown Heights 3BR look better. Sure it’s a house vs. apartment, but it’s also Red Hook vs Crown Heights. If you wanted a house by the water, you could probably rent a house in Long Beach for that, and have a similar commute.

Actually just did a little craigslist searching…you could find a house somewhere like Long Beach for ~25-30% less.

  2. Even with Sandy in the not too distant past, Red Hook is really getting it’s comeuppance. I keep seeing the listings, but really don’t have a sense to what is moving, what’s in contract, what rents are really happening etc. I do know that the major art world buzz that’s been chirping away makes it seems like it is just getting started with the high prices. Hopefully this doesn’t point to it ever becoming Bburg, but one has to wonder what lots will not be a part of the McConnell commercial zoning hold outs. Will it rise up? Time will tell. And the blogs…. of course
