Saul opened in its new home in the Brooklyn Museum Friday night. The restaurant is not yet serving brunch and lunch, but will start in the coming weeks. Executive chef Saul Bolton will also oversee food and drink at the museum cafe, called the Counter. The critically acclaimed restaurant started in Boerum Hill 14 years ago and serves neo-American fare. The menu will have a mix of old favorites and new dishes, including sunchoke soup, black bass with a saffron-mussel sauce, and baked alaska.

The new space seats 87 diners and was designed by Brooklyn-based UHURU. The main dining room features abstract murals by artist Paul Kelpe on loan from the New York City Housing Authority. They were originally created for the Williamsburg Houses. A communal table in the center of the dining room is made of locally milled elm with a Carrara marble top.

  1. Yeah, they went there with the Saul-on-Smith prices. So-called “counter menu” is much less expensive but I’m sure that’s when the main resaurant isn’t open. Link: http://www.saulrestaurant.com/menus

Agree about the tiny portions at Saul on Smith; about the only restaurant where I could eat a tasting menu and emerge still hungry.
