The developer of Sunset Park’s Hotel BPM, Rajesh Bhagia of RJ Hospitality, intends to build a hotel at 529 President Street in Gowanus, DNAinfo reported. The boutique hotel will have 99 rooms and be designed by architect Thomas Gilman. That will bring the total number of hotels in the area to at least five. Others include the Holiday Inn Express on Union Street and 3rd Avenue, the Super 8 hotel at 267 3rd Avenue near President, and the Marriott Fairfield Inn on 3rd Avenue. Another boutique hotel, The Gowanus Inn and Yard, from a Beatrice Inn founder, is planned for 645 Union Street. Bhagia also developed two Sleep Inn hotels; the Hotel BPM is a music themed hotel with lobby DJs. Williamsburg is also seeing a lot of hotel development lately, with at least three in the works.

This really represents two groups of hotels – the boutique/upscale ones and the more business oriented ones.
