On My Block Films just announced that it is kicking off its second annual filmmaking challenge in July. Last year, OMB invited NYC residents to create a one- to three-and-a-half-minute length narrative or documentary films on their block using only residents of the block as cast and crew. Viewers could vote on their favorite shorts and then a panel picked the top films to screen at a film festival. (Here are the official submissions from last year.) The same thing’s happening this year, and OMB is accepting films until October 31st, 2013. OMB will screen the top 20 films at an awards event on November 11th at the SVA Theater. They’ll give awards for the Best Narrative Film, the Best Documentary Film, and the Best In Show. Interested in participating? Go here! On My Block also started a Kickstarter to raise funds for this year’s festival.
