Groundswell, the nonprofit community group that brings young people and artists together to paint murals around the city, just announced five new art projects for public spaces around Brooklyn. The first is for the Gowanus Arts Building at 295 Douglass Street, with a mural that explores the theme of “Women as International Community.” The second is at Student Farm Project Garden, 512 Rockaway Parkway (a mural about role models and the male identity), the third at the neglected Broadway Junction subway station in East New York (the theme is “I Love East New York”), and the fourth at the Sunset Park C-Town, 760 4th Avenue, with artwork celebrating livable streets. Finally, a group of students will paint a second mural at the Brooklyn Navy Yard (the first is pictured above, at the Sands Street Gate.) This one, which will celebrate the history of the Navy Yard, will go up at Bldg 92. All the artwork will be completed by August 31st.
