The vision for the first residential tower at Atlantic Yards has been released, City Room reports. The big news is that Forest City Ratner would like to use modular construction for the job, though it’s not certain that will happen. The article notes that at 32 stories, the building would be “the world’s tallest prefabricated steel structure.” Fourteen other Atlantic Yards buildings would also be prefab. The first building, two renderings of which designed by SHoP Architects are shown above, is slated to have 350 units and rise at Dean Street and Flatbush Avenue. The developer hopes to start work on it early next year. Bruce Ratner says 60 percent of construction would take place in a factory, and a deal still needs to be hammered out with construction workers since union workers make significantly less in factory settings than at construction sites. Click through for a few more renderings via Curbed, which notes that construction on the first tower is supposed to take around 18 months.
