For the next few weeks, we’ll spotlight all the buildings in the proposed Skyscraper District. The final hearing to landmark the two dozen structures is calendared for September 13th.
For the first installment of Downtown Brooklyn’s Skyscraper District, we’re covering the buildings from 184-212 Montague, 16 Court Street and 165-177 Remsen. You can see an entire map of the district here. The collection includes 16 Court Street, the tallest office tower in Brooklyn, a charming three-story building with green trim at 165 Remsen, and a few more modern office buildings. As the LPC states, the district “is characterized primarily by tall commercial buildings erected in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Designed in a range of styles from the Romanesque-Revival to the Beaux-Arts to the Modern, the structures in the study area represent the work of an impressive group of architects.” The proposal is not without its controversies, though. Tune in for another round of buildings next week!
