The Times reports that the Brooklyn Academy of Music has inked a deal to select a few big productions that will be staged every year at the Barclays Center. BAM’s president, Karen Brooks Hopkins, says the shows will be “on a very large scale, large nouvelle cirque kind of work, big dance kind of things, music.” BAM will get a curatorial fee from the agreement but not a cut of the ticket sales. Forest City Ratner Chairman Bruce Ratner says the move isn’t meant to win over Atlantic Yards critics: “We care a tremendous amount about the community, but we don’t do it to get credit.”

  1. I am interested in seeing what the facade looks like in reality. In some renderings the texture looks like lizard skin and in others it looks like basket weave.

  2. This is going to be good for Brooklyn. The new cultural hub around BAM and the arena will create an entertainment center that will compete with Manhattan. It is long overdo.

  3. what makes you so sure he’s white and liberal? Oh wait- this is another of your race baiting posts. I see you lost your ebonics accent here, you fake.

  4. Wah Wah Wah. Its truly unbelievable how you can find something negative in EVERYTHING. BAM has committed to put on unique shows that it couldnt do without the Arena – this is a nice and good thing for Brooklyn’s cultural scene. HOW CAN YOU COMPLAIN???

Really what it is, is just another excuse to bitch and moan about the original issue – you didnt want an arena. But LOOK – the steel is up, the arena is HERE – no it isnt Gehry (which wasnt so loved b4 either) and there is no roof track – ok! are you going to keep crying about things that cannot and will not change or are you going to accept reality and at least support the benefits? …dont answer, I already know your answer
