Rock Out for Minty: Block Party
Come celebrate the first birthday of Minty an incredible child who is battling potentially terminal brain cancer. The birthday celebration will involve shutting down Minty’s entire block on South 2nd St between Berry St. and Wythe St in Williamsburg for an outdoor concert and block party. The philosophy behind this party is to have an outdoor event with minimal impact on the environment. The fair will feature a children’s music concert, healthy kid’s treats, art activities, a climbing gym, fire trucks, water sprinklers, and more. ALL of the proceeds from this event will go directly to Minty in order to help her fight a fight that she deserves to win. Saturday, July 10. 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. $5. South 2nd Street between Berry Street and Wythe Street.

The Far Side of Green-Wood
Explore the less-visited other side of Green-Wood, whose deceased denizens are no less fascinating. Visit with Historic Fund tour guide Ruth Edebohls the last resting places of artists Basquiat and Kensett, a silent western film star, the original Wizard of Oz, the founder of the ASPCA, the inventor of the hot dog, several Civil War generals, minstrels, and many more. Sunday, July 11. 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. $10. Fort Hamilton Parkway entrance to Green-Wood Cemetery at Miceli Place.

The Brooklyn Flea
The Flea is located not only at the former bank at One Hanson, but also at the Fort Greene market. On Saturdays, the market will be located at the Fort Greene location and on Sundays you can find the market at One Hanson which is located at the clocktower Art Deco building at Flatbush Ave., across from the Target mall. The Flea features 100 vendors and a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday & Sunday, July 10 & 11. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free. 176 Lafayette Avenue and 1 Hanson Place, Skylight One Hanson.

Seining the River Wild
Find out what lives in the waters under the Manhattan Bridge! Join experts from the Coastal Marine Resource Center as they use a 30-foot seining net to catch fish and other remarkable East River creatures. Families and kids can take a good look at the fish before releasing them back to their homes and keep a tally of the catch. Provided are field guides, identification keys, and plenty of fun to go around. Suggested ages: 5-10. Saturday, July 10. 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Free. Beach under the Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge Park.

ISSUE’s Summer Courtyard Concert Series Continues this Sunday with Bobb Trimble’s Flying Spiders, Loren Connor’s Haunted House, Gary War and Samara Lubelski. 6th Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival
The Brooklyn Bodega presents the 6th Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival where Old School, New School, Funk, Soul, Local, and International artists will converge upon downtown Brooklyn and the waterfront for a full day of the best Hip-Hop music our culture has to offer. The event begins with Family Day where Brooklyn Bodega hopes to spread a message of peace and unity while celebrating the central themes of Hip-Hop. Come out and celebrate with the Bodega Fam, enjoying all-day activities such as blow-up bowling, arts and crafts, face painting, poetry writing, DJing lessons, a community mural, yoga for kids, a graffiti workshop, a children’s dance party, give aways and more!
