Yesterday three Nostalgia Trains departed from the New York Transit Museum’s decommissioned subway station in Brooklyn Heights for the first time this summer. If you missed it, there is another trip planned to Coney Island on July 31st, and then a trip to the Rockaways August 21st. The trip to the Rockaways will be using vintage trains from the 30s and 40s and vintage 40s and 50s buses. The buses will have features first introduced in the 50s: a push-type rear exit door, soft seating, and fluorescent lighting. For more information check here.

  1. newsouthsloper, you have a point, but just because there is a fiscal crisis doesnt mean things like this shouldnt happen. it makes living in the city fun and interesting, and at least in this situation it’s a bit of a local history lesson. now that idiotic pier 6 park… hahah no seriously, that is a good thing too i guess.

    *rob*

  2. I think the Transit Museum pays for the special rides… both the train and the old buses.

The tours costs $45 each… $30 for museum members. If they get 500 people, they’re clearing at least $20,000.

  3. I wonder what it costs to stage these things? They seem pretty cool and all, but isnt there something about a fiscal crisis I read about going on right now?

Where do they get the money to do this stuff anyway? Line item in the MTA budget?
